About the Role
We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and highly organised person to join our busy GP surgery in Dunboyne on a part-time permanent basis.
The role will begin with a six-month period split approximately 50% between back-office administration and 50% reception.
For the first six months, the successful candidate will provide fully supported back-office administrative assistance as maternity leave cover, working alongside the existing team and receiving full training. The remaining 50% will be based on reception, providing a professional, friendly, and efficient service to our patients.
Following the initial six-month period, the maternity leave cover will come to an end, with the intention that the successful candidate will remain with the practice on a permanent part-time basis as a part of our Reception Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to become part of a friendly, established GP practice and develop a broad understanding of both the administrative and patient-facing sides of general practice.

The successful candidate will receive full support and training while assisting with the following:
- Processing and maintaining confidential patient records accurately.
- Scanning, filing, and managing medical and administrative documentation.
- Processing correspondence, referrals, forms, and reports.
- Assisting with private medical administration and associated paperwork.
- Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Updating patient information and records.
- Liaising with hospitals, pharmacies, consultants, and other healthcare providers as required.
- Supporting the Practice Manager and wider practice team with administrative tasks.
- Following established practice procedures and maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability.
- Maintaining strict patient confidentiality and adhering to GDPR and data protection requirements.
Reception 50%
Reception responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming patients in a friendly, professional, and compassionate manner.
- Answering and managing a busy telephone line.
- Dealing with patient enquiries efficiently and sensitively.
- Booking, cancelling, and rescheduling appointments.
- Checking patients in and out
- Processing payments and issuing receipts.
- Processing prescription requests in line with practice communications.
- Communicating effectively with GPs, nurses, and other members of the team.
- Maintaining accurate patient information.
- Assisting with the smooth running of the reception and waiting areas.
- Providing general administrative support to the practice as required.
Following a successful initial six-month period, the intention is for the successful candidate to continue with the practice permanently on a part-time basis as a valued member of the Reception Team.
