Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Machine Set-Up & Production
- Set, prove out, and optimise CNC turning and/or milling machines in line with approved programs and work instructions
- Select and set the correct tooling, fixtures, and work-holding for each job, and carry out first-off inspection and approval before handover to production
- Edit and optimise CNC programs and offsets to hold dimensional tolerances and improve cycle times
- Load raw material and configure machines for efficient, right-first-time production runs
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues during set-up and production, minimising downtime
- Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, and height gauges
- Meet daily and weekly production targets while maintaining first-time-right quality
- Support and guide CNC Operators on running machines to the approved set-up
Quality & Documentation
- Complete set-up sheets, batch records, inspection sheets, and traceability documentation accurately and in real time
- Identify and report non-conformances promptly, quarantining suspect product in line with procedure
- Lead or support root cause investigation and corrective actions for quality issues on the shop floor
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with ISO 13485 quality management system requirements
Health, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area in line with 5S principles
- Follow all EHS procedures, including safe handling of cutting fluids, tooling, and machine guarding
- Identify and lead opportunities for process improvement, cycle-time reduction, and waste elimination
- Provide training and cross-skilling support to Operators across additional machines or processes as required
Key Skills and Competencies:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Setter to join our Operations team. This role is responsible for setting, proving out, and optimising CNC turning and/or milling machines to manufacture precision orthopaedic implant and instrument components to exacting tolerances. The successful candidate will lead machine set-up and first-off approval, support CNC Operators on the shop floor, and work closely with Quality, Engineering and Production teams to ensure components are machined right first time, to specification, and to the quality standards expected in the medical device industry.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 4 years’ experience setting and operating CNC turning and/or milling machines, ideally in a precision engineering or medical device environment
- Proven ability to set, prove out, and edit CNC programs and offsets independently
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T
- Competent in the use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and height gauges
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and traceability
- Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
- Willingness to work flexible shifts (days/evenings/nights/weekends), with flexibility to support production schedules
