Role Overview:
The Team Leader/ Manager is responsible for the daily management and operation of both the ECCE service and the Afterschool service from 13:30 to 18:00. This role involves leading a team of educators to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment that supports children’s learning and development in line with Aistear, Síolta and TUSLA Early Years Regulations. The Team Leader/ Manager ensures high standards of care, education and wellbeing for all children while supporting staff, engaging with families and maintaining regulatory compliance.

- Job Title: Team Leader/ Manager
- Working hours: 37.5 – 40 hours per week
- Job type: Permanent; full-time
- Location: Ballintubber, Co. Mayo; within commuting distance of Ballinrobe and Castlebar
- Pay: €31,500 – €36,450 per year
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality care and education for pre-school and school-aged children
- Plan, implement and evaluate a play-based curriculum in line with Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework.
- Ensure practice reflects Síolta quality standards.
- Observe, assess and document children’s development and learning.
- Support children’s emotional, social, cognitive and physical development.
- Promote inclusion, equality and diversity within the setting.
Room Leadership:
- Lead and support the staff team within the room.
- Delegate duties and ensure staff ratios comply with TUSLA regulations.
- Mentor and guide Early Years Educators and assistants.
- Ensure daily routines run smoothly and effectively.
Health, Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with TUSLA Early Years Inspectorate Regulations.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety.
- Implement and follow safeguarding procedures including Children First guidelines.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.
Communication:
- Build positive relationships with parents and guardians.
- Provide feedback to parents on children's development and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with management and colleagues.
- Participate in meetings, staff training and professional development.
Administration:Maintain accurate records including:
- Child observations
- Developmental records
- Incident reports
- Attendance records
- Assist in maintaining room documentation for inspections.
Essential Qualifications:
- Relevant qualification in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) or equivalent recognised by DCEDIY on the Early Years Recognised Qualifications list (Minimum QQI Level 6 or equivalent)
- Qualification must meet TUSLA E arly Years Regulations requirements.
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an Early Years setting.
- Experience in planning and implementing curriculum using Aistear.
- Experience supervising or supporting staff desirable.
Essential Skills:
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Aistear and Síolta frameworks
- Knowledge of TUSLA regulations and compliance requirements
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Commitment to high-quality early childhood practice
Additional Requirements:
- Garda Vetting through the National Vetting Bureau
- Up-to-date First Aid, Manual Handling and Child Protection training (or willingness to obtain)
- Right to work in Ireland
- Holding a valid Irish Driving Licence is strongly desired, but not essential
Desirable Experience:
- Experience preparing for TUSLA inspections
- Experience with curriculum-planning and mentoring staff
- Continuous professional development in Early Childhood Education
