Role Overview
Tower Plant & Civil Engineering is seeking an experienced Construction Plant Fitter to join our plant team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing and repairing our construction plant and equipment. This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on heavy construction machinery, hydraulics, diesel engines, transmissions and plant-specific fault finding.
The role will involve both planned maintenance and breakdown repairs, with work carried out in the workshop and on construction sites as required.
Main Responsibilities
- Service, maintain and repair heavy construction plant and machinery.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance on tracked and wheeled plant, including excavators, dumpers, rollers, loaders and other earthmoving equipment.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic system faults, including pumps, motors, valves, cylinders and associated components.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults on construction plant.
- Service, diagnose and repair diesel engines and associated systems.
- Repair and overhaul transmissions, torque converters, drivetrains and other plant components.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble mechanical and hydraulic components.
- Identify worn or damaged components and carry out appropriate repairs or replacements.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing across the plant fleet.
- Attend plant breakdowns and diagnose faults to minimise machinery downtime.
- Use diagnostic equipment to identify faults on modern construction machinery.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams and manufacturer information.
- Inspect machinery to identify developing faults, excessive wear or required repairs.
- Test plant following repairs and servicing to ensure correct operation.
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on ancillary plant including generators, compressors, pumps and hydraulic attachments where required.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Construction Plant Fitter, Plant Fitter or Heavy Plant Fitter.
- Strong experience working specifically with construction plant and heavy machinery.
- Experience maintaining and repairing tracked and wheeled plant.
- Strong knowledge of mobile hydraulic systems and hydraulic fault finding.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and associated systems.
- Experience with transmissions, torque converters and drivetrains.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Experience dismantling, inspecting, repairing and rebuilding plant components.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to use technical manuals, schematics and diagnostic information.
- Experience carrying out both planned maintenance and breakdown repairs.
- Ability to independently assess a machine fault and determine the appropriate repair.
