FLS Technician – Key Responsibilities
Fire & Life Safety Inspections
Carry out scheduled inspections and functional testing of Fire & Life Safety (FLS) equipment.
Ensure inspections are completed in line with site SOPs, GMP requirements and safety procedures.
Identify defects and raise corrective actions.
Ensure defective equipment is returned to a safe and compliant condition.
EAM / Asset Management
Use Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems to manage maintenance and inspection activities.
Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks.
Record inspection findings and maintenance activities.
Update asset records and maintenance history.
Raise defects and document corrective actions.
Monitor outstanding work orders and ensure timely completion.
ZetaSafe Administration
Use ZetaSafe for asset identification, inspection management and compliance tracking.
Support and manage migration of FLS assets from MyTag to ZetaSafe.
Carry out asset tagging and database updates.
Scan assets using NFC/tagging technology.
Record inspection results against the correct asset.
Maintain accurate asset registers.
Generate and maintain inspection records and reports.
Emergency Safety Showers & Eyewash Stations
Conduct routine inspections and functional testing.
Verify: Water flow and activation.
Operation of pull handles and actuators.
Eyewash functionality and condition.
Physical condition and accessibility.
Signage and identification.
Drainage and surrounding area condition.
Record inspection results electronically.
Raise defects and work requests where required.
Maintain eyewash nozzles and filter components.
Diphoterine Stations
Inspect and test emergency decontamination stations.
Check: Accessibility and physical condition.
Expiry dates.
Packaging and seals.
Correct stock quantities.
Product condition.
Signage and identification.
Replace expired or damaged units.
Update asset records following inspections.
Breathing Apparatus (BA)
Perform routine inspections of BA equipment.
Check: Cylinders and cylinder condition.
Harnesses and straps.
Masks and facepieces.
Valves, hoses and connections.
Pressure gauges.
General equipment condition.
Carry out functional checks in accordance with site procedures.
Identify equipment requiring repair, replacement or further testing.
Maintain equipment traceability and inspection history.
Gas Detection Equipment
Inspect and maintain portable gas detection meters.
Perform bump testing and calibration activities.
Verify detector response and functionality.
Inspect sensors, batteries, alarms and overall condition.
Record calibration and test results.
Remove failed equipment from service.
Maintain calibration compliance and records.
Spill Kits
Inspect chemical and environmental spill kits.
Check: Correct contents.
Absorbent material quantities.
PPE availability.
Disposal bags and containment materials.
Condition of containers.
Accessibility and signage.
Replenish missing or used materials.
Record inspections and raise defects where necessary.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all FLS equipment is inspected within required frequencies.
Maintain accurate electronic inspection records.
Raise defects, work requests and corrective actions through EAM systems.
Maintain full equipment traceability and inspection history.
Work in accordance with GMP, safety, environmental and quality standards.
Support audits and inspections with accurate records and evidence of completed inspections.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Plan and prioritise daily workloads and inspections.
Liaise with Facilities, Engineering, EHS, contractors and site departments.
Respond to equipment defects and safety-related issues.
Escalate critical failures and compliance concerns.
Maintain stock levels of replacement equipment and consumables.
Ensure inspection tools and test equipment remain serviceable.
Comply with RAMS, permits and site safety requirements.
Work independently across a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
Maintain a high level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
