We are seeking an energetic, customer-focused Horticulturist Assistant to join our team in a fast-paced garden centre environment. In this role, you will combine your passion for plants with exceptional customer service skills to help our visitors find the right plants, care products, and gardening solutions for their homes and gardens.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Actively engage with customers, offering knowledgeable advice on plant selection, care routines, pest control, and soil amendments.
- Plant Maintenance: Assist with watering, pruning, potting, fertilizing, and maintaining the overall health and visual appeal of our plant inventory.
- Stock & Merchandising: Unload deliveries, restock displays, maintain clean and organized retail areas, and ensure all items are correctly priced and labeled.
- Store Operations: Support daily retail operations, operate the till when required, and handle cash/card transactions efficiently during peak hours.
- Shop Display: Help set up seasonal plant displays and promotional setups to create an inviting shopping experience.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of retail experience (experience in a garden centre, nursery, or floristry setting is a strong advantage).
- Plant Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of indoor and outdoor plants, soil types, and general gardening techniques.
- Customer-Centric Mindset: Excellent communication skills with a genuinely friendly, helpful approach to handling customer inquiries.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work on your feet, move outdoors in varied weather conditions, and comfortably lift/carry heavy items.
