Job Purpose:
As part of Fexco Tech, the Infrastructure Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and customer-focused delivery of IT services across the organisation.
Our team of Infrastructure Engineers handle driving operational excellence, strengthening service performance, and delivering continuous improvement aligned with business and technology strategy.
This role combines strong technical capability with a service-oriented mindset, ensuring our cloud platforms are reliable, cost-effective, and fully observable.
This specific position will take the technical lead for Cloud FinOps practices, driving the maturity, governance, and optimisation of cloud spend across Azure and GCP, while also leading observability standards using Grafana and Prometheus.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Design, build, and manage cloud infrastructure across Azure and GCP.
- Own and lead the evolution of Cloud FinOps practices, including:
- Defining FinOps standards, governance, and operating model
- Establishing cost visibility, allocation, and tagging strategies
- Driving budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimisation initiatives
- Partnering with Engineering, Finance and Service Delivery on cost control and reporting
- Act as the technical subject matter expert for cloud cost optimisation across engineering teams.
- Develop and maintain Grafana dashboards and Prometheus monitoring/alerting frameworks, setting standards for observability.
- Ensure strong cost-performance balance across all cloud services.
- Support infrastructure deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform).
- Monitor availability, performance, and capacity aligned to service objectives.
- Lead or support incident response and problem management, contributing to root cause analysis and prevention, and participate in an on-call rotation as required to support business needs.
- Collaborate with platform, engineering, and architecture teams to influence design decisions.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement, particularly in cost optimisation and monitoring.
- Produce clear reporting and dashboards for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Skills & Experience (Essential)
- 3–5+ years’ experience in Infrastructure / Cloud Engineering.
- Azure Administrator and/or GCP Administrator certifications, with strong hands-on experience with Azure and/or GCP.
- Third Level qualification in IT/relevant field or demonstrable similar experience in a current/past role.
- Proven track record in Cloud FinOps / cost optimisation, with evidence of measurable impact.
- Experience defining or contributing to FinOps frameworks, governance, or maturity models.
- Strong experience with:
- Grafana (advanced dashboards and visualisation)
- Prometheus (metrics design, alerting, PromQL)
- Jira (Jira, JSM Operations integration for alerting, Confluence)
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform).
- Strong understanding of:
- Cloud architecture and cost drivers
- Observability and monitoring best practices
- Cost vs performance optimisation strategies
- Scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Experience working in production environments with incident management.
Desirable Skills
- FinOps certification or formal cost management training.
- Experience with tools such as Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing.
- Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Administration experience
- Kubernetes / container platform experience.
- Understanding of SRE principles (SLIs/SLOs).
- Experience implementing chargeback/showback models.
- Experience influencing engineering teams and driving standards adoption.
