Permanent Contract, Part Time Hours (0.6 WTE)
The post holder will report to the Assistant Director of Nursing (Night Duty) who is accountable to the Director of Nursing.
Purpose of this post:

To provide strategic clinical and professional leadership to nursing personnel on night duty.

Be responsible for ensuring an optimum clinical environment including the appropriate supports for registered nurses and students in clinical areas to deliver quality and person centred care.
Responsibilities include:

Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership in all aspects of nursing care.

Act as a positive and accountable role model in providing direct patient care.

Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using evidence-based care planning approach.

Assess, evaluate and review the requirements of individual patient needs.

Ensure all hospital policies and procedures are adhered to and staff are informed of any changes.

Orientate new members of staff to specific night duty clinical standards.

Take personal accountability for own ongoing professional development and updating.

Ensure the planned duty rota deploys staff economically accounting for patient dependency and the skill mix required to provide an efficient and safe customer service

Have good communication skills, keep channels of communication open with relevant personnel across the service.

Maintain and develop links with relevant personnel within the hospital.

Member of the Medical Emergency, F.E.R.T and Major Incident team.

Management of immediate Post- operative, Acute Medical and Observation bed patients.

Liaise with Radiology, Laboratory, Blood Bank Scientist, Haemovigilance RGNs, N.C.H.D.'s and Theatre on call staff.

Co-ordination of Theatre list times and priority lists on night duty.
Eligibility Criteria:

Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

Extensive recent experience in an acute hospital setting including at least five years post registration experience in such a setting, of which two years must be in the speciality or related area.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Management qualification desirable.

Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

Excellent clinical skills including A.C.L.S.
