Mechanical Contracts Manager – Job Description Role Overview The Mechanical Contracts Manager will be a key hire under the current directors and is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of mechanical engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards. This role involves contract management, client liaison, project coordination, and leading multidisciplinary teams across all phases of project delivery. Key Responsibilities Contract & Commercial Management
- Manage mechanical contracts from tender stage through to final account settlement
- Review, negotiate, and administer contract terms and conditions
- Monitor project budgets, control costs, and maximise profitability
- Prepare valuations, variations, and claims in line with contract requirements
- Liaise with commercial teams to ensure accurate financial reporting
Project Delivery
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of mechanical services projects
- Ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and industry standards
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions where necessary
- Ensure all works are delivered in line with programme schedules
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, consultants, and key stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong working relationships
- Attend progress meetings and provide status updates
- Resolve disputes and manage client expectations effectively
Team Leadership
- Ensure standard SOP's are being adhered to across all jobs.
- Lead and mentor Project managers, engineers, supervisors, and site teams
- Allocate resources effectively across projects
- Promote a collaborative and high-performance work environment
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Promote a strong safety culture across all sites
- Conduct site audits and risk assessments
- Ensure all mechanical installations meet statutory and quality standards
Procurement & Supply Chain
- Manage procurement of mechanical equipment and materials
- Evaluate subcontractor performance and manage supply chain relationships
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to meet project timelines
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, plant, etc.)
- Excellent contract administration and commercial awareness
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Effective communication and negotiation abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Problem-solving and decision-making capability
- High level of attention to detail
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Proven experience in mechanical contracting or construction environment
- Experience managing large-scale projects (commercial, industrial, or residential)
- Strong understanding of contract forms (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JCT – depending on region)
- Professional membership (e.g., CIBSE, Engineers Ireland, or equivalent) is an advantage
Typical Work Environment
- Combination of office-based and site-based work
- Regular travel to project sites may be required
- Fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent deadlines
