About the role
We are now looking for a professional senior or principal ecologist to join our team in CAAS Ltd. This is a dynamic role, contributing to diverse portfolio of nationally significant projects in both the public and private sectors across Ireland. The successful candidate will be working in a small and welcoming company with a team of dedicated and passionate specialists.

Key responsibilities include reviewing and writing Ecological Impact Assessments and Appropriate Assessment reports (Screenings for AA and Natura Impact Statements/Reports at plan and project levels) and providing specialist ecological advice across a variety of projects in collaboration with the team.
Ability to work on your own initiative as well as collaboratively within a team and confidence in engaging with colleagues and clients in a professional, friendly and approachable manner is essential. The flexibility to travel and work across Ireland, including occasional overnight stays, may also be required.
Essential criteria

At least 5 years’ experience in ecological consultancy

Degree in ecological, biodiversity, conservation or other ecology related discipline – or equivalent relevant experience in ecological consultancy

Significant experience in leading the preparation and review of Ecological Impact Assessments and project level Appropriate Assessment reports and/or
-
experience in preparing plan level Appropriate Assessments

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant wildlife legislation and policy in Ireland and EU
-
High degree of familiarity with relevant survey and ecological guidelines for planning and development in Ireland (and UK guidelines where relevant)
-
Strong attention to detail and technical report writing capabilities
Desirable criteria

Specialism in at least one of the following: bats, ornithology, botany, freshwater ecology, terrestrial mammals

Full driver’s licence and access to a vehicle

Full or associate CIEEM member or comparable professional body, or eligibility to apply

Experience in designing and performing field surveys, particularly habitat surveys and multidisciplinary ecological walkover surveys

Experience in design and application of mitigation measures for projects
-
Up to date knowledge of case law, policy and legislation relevant to the role

Ability to use GIS (Arc or Q) for mapping with R/Excel for data manipulation and analysis

Experience in Biodiversity Net Gain assessments

Experience with protected species licencing
