New Product Development Scientist

As we continue our rapid growth, we are looking for an experienced New Product Development Scientist to join our wider NPD team.

Key Responsibilities
- Work within the New Product Development team, formulating new and existing beverage and powder products in the sports nutrition and health & wellness space.
- Undertake technical assessments of new product concepts, identifying potential formulation, manufacturing, microbiological and quality risks throughout the development process.
- Develop laboratory samples and oversee product optimisation from concept through to factory scale-up and commercial production.
- Own and coordinate product validation activities including microbiological testing, shelf-life studies, stability programmes and risk assessments, ensuring all appropriate testing is completed prior to launch.
- Work closely with Production, Quality and Procurement teams to ensure formulations are robust, manufacturable and suitable for commercial scale production.
- Support and review factory trials, troubleshooting technical product issues and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Work cross-functionally within the NPD/Quality teams in the development and review of product specifications, technical documentation and relevant quality records.
- Support HACCP reviews, raw material risk assessments and change control activities associated with new products and existing product improvements.
- Maintain accurate and organised documentation relating to product development, validation studies and technical decision-making.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory developments across the sports, nutrition, health, and wellness sectors, identifying and generating ideas for relevant product and concept opportunities.
- Support customer technical queries, internal investigations and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
- Maintain an organised laboratory environment, ensuring equipment calibration, inventory management and good laboratory practices are upheld.
Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or a related scientific discipline.
- 3+ years' experience in food, beverage or nutritional supplement product development within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of beverage and powder formulation.
- Experience in microbiological risk assessment, shelf-life determination and product validation programmes.
- Knowledge of HACCP principles, food safety systems and quality management practices.
- Experience supporting factory trials and troubleshooting manufacturing-related technical issues.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across Production, Quality and Commercial teams.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work independently while also being able to work as part of a team,
