JOB PURPOSE/MAIN PURPOSE
- To carry out kitchen duties to a high standard, supporting the delivery of quality care and meeting the needs of residents. To organise daily tasks effectively, ensuring all duties are completed in line with the home’s standards, while working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Cheffing duties when head chef is off.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties
- The post holder will assist in a variety of kitchen and domestic duties and will work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- To assist with the setting of tables and ensuring a high standard of cleanliness in the dining areas.
- Assist with the preparation of meals, setting of tables and the removal of foods and utensils after meals, in a manner which reflects the home’s philosophy of respect of the resident.
- To rinse and place all used utensils in dishwasher and to wash and place all clean dishes in the appropriate storage area.
- To assist with the preparation and cleaning of vegetables under the instruction and guidance of the Cook.
- To ensure that all dry goods and vegetable areas are kept clean and tidy.
- To brush and mop floors as directed by the Cook.
General
- To comply with Company accident reporting procedures.
- To adhere to all Company, statutory and Health and Safety obligations.
- To attend any relevant training sessions to ensure that you are fully equipped to perform your role effectively as specified by the Nurse Manager.
- To be aware of company policies, procedures and practices concerned within your area of work, e.g. Health & Safety, Fire Awareness, Moving & Handling acquired through formal training as organised by the company.
- To be involved with supporting and orientating new members of staff on an ongoing basis.
- To be involved in quality audits as part of working practice.
- Job Descriptions are systematically reviewed and updated.
- To ensure effective and appropriate communication with residents.
- To be mindful of hazards created by leads/cables, trolleys etc which could cause a resident to fall or injure themselves.
- To exercise efficiency and economy in the use of home resources.

- To report concerns raised by residents/relatives during the course of your duties to the Nurse in Charge / Nurse Manager.
PHYSICAL SKILL
There is a requirement for developed physical skills to fulfil duties where there is a requirement for accuracy and speed e.g. cleaning of spillages, transferring of loads, etc.
