Killeshin Medical Centre is a newly established, modern, patient-centered GP practice in Portlaoise. We are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare to our local community. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and professional Registered General Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse with General Practice experience, or a nurse with relevant clinical experience who is interested in developing a career in Primary Care.
Position Details
- Position: General Practice Nurse
- Location: Killeshin Medical Centre, Portlaoise, Co. Laois
- Contract: Fixed term (Part-time)
- Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
The Successful Candidate Will Have
- Registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Experience in General Practice nursing is essential.
- Competency in phlebotomy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good computer literacy and experience with electronic medical records.
- A professional, caring, and patient-focused approach.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide a wide range of nursing services including:
Immunisations
- Childhood and adult vaccinations
- Influenza, COVID-19 and other recommended immunisations
Chronic Disease Management
- Diabetes management
- Cardiovascular risk assessment
- Hypertension management
- Asthma and COPD reviews
- Health screening and preventative care
Women's Health
- Cervical screening (CervicalCheck)
- Family planning advice and support
General Nursing Duties
- Phlebotomy
- ECG recording
- Ear irrigation
- Wound care and dressings
- Removal of sutures
- Administration of prescribed medications and injections
- Health promotion and patient education
- Telephone advice and triage where appropriate
- Supporting GPs in delivering high-quality patient care
