Purpose of the Role;
To provide a structured approach within the D15 family support service for families affected by substance misuse in the area.
This role will also encompass work with a focus on drug and alcohol education prevention and implementation.
Primary responsibilities / Duties of the role;
- To identify, engage and work directly with family members affected by a loved ones drug and alcohol use.
- Ensure the highest ethical and professional standards of care are delivered in a safe environment for family members.
- Promote and deliver evidence-based programmes such as The 5 Step Method, Steps 2 Cope, SHAHRP, Parenting Under Pressure (PUP).
- Understand the importance of hidden harm and its impact to individuals and families.
- Work from a trauma informed lens when providing drug and alcohol education prevention programmes.
- Utlising the EUDA (European Union Drug Agency) guidelines to develop and deliver evidence based programmes within the community.
- Research, monitor and evaluation of appropriate school, family and community based preventative interventions.
- Deliver in school drug and alcohol education programmes in line with ETB and Dept of Education through SPHE.
- Focusing work through the National Drugs Strategy and its goals and aims.
- Empower service users to make positive meaningful changes and enhance progression through evidence based intervention.
- Deliver and facilitate groups with parents both inhouse and within the community.
- Prepare and submit relevant outcome reports, maintain and develop evidence of effectiveness.
- Develop strategic partnerships with other agencies, including; schools, education training and addiction services, mental health, social care and community agencies.
- Be proficient in Child Protection guidelines and recognition of risk factors and Hidden Harm in the family.
- Utlise community work methodologies.
- Engage target groups with skills in empowering others and facilitating development.
- Actively use own initiative and work effectively within a pressurised environment.
Essential Requirements
· 3rd level qualification in the social care field such as; -
+Family support Work
+Education (alternative related)
+Addiction related
· A minimum of 2-year relevant experience working directly with families and/or young people.
· A minimum of 2-year experience within community sector engaging with schools, service, youtng people and families with an education focus.
· Demonstrate ability to engage, build and maintain relationships with at risk, vulnerable communities.
· Profiecent IT skills e.g. MS Office, Word, Excel, Power Point.
· Access to car and full driving licence.
· Working from an informed and evidence based structure.
· Trained/Accredited in 5 Step Method, Steps to Cope.
- Training in Hidden Harm Practice Guide
- Trained/Accredited in evidence based parenting intervention e.g Parenting Under Pressure
- Experience of working with people coping with addiction.
