To deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to the practice population of Glanmire. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Primary Care Team to provide clinical nursing, health promotion, and chronic disease management for both public (GMS) and private patients.Key Responsibilities & DutiesClinical & Patient Care
- Phlebotomy: Perform general venepuncture and process laboratory samples.
- Immunisations: Administer infant, childhood, seasonal (flu/COVID), and travel vaccinations.
- Wound Management: Provide assessment, dressing, ulcer care, and suture removal.
- Cervical Screening: Conduct smear tests under the National Cervical Screening Programme (if registered taker).
- Triage: Manage telephone and walk-in patient triage to prioritise urgent care.
- Patient Procedures: Perform ear syringing, ECGs, blood pressure monitoring, and 24-hour BP setup.
Chronic Disease Management (CDM)
- Respiratory Care: Provide nursing management for Asthma and COPD, including spirometry testing.
- Diabetes & Cardiovascular Care: Support patients under the national CDM program with regular reviews, dietary advice, and lifestyle interventions.
Practice Administration & Health and Safety
- Infection Control: Maintain sterilisation of instruments and strict clinical hygiene protocols.
- Stock Management: Oversee the ordering and rotation of vaccines, emergency drugs, and clinical equipment.
- Documentation: Ensure accurate, confidential recording of data using GP software (e.g., Socrates or HealthOne).
Requirements & QualificationsEssential Criteria
- Professional Registration: Live annual registration on the General Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical nursing experience.
- Skills: Proven proficiency in phlebotomy and childhood immunisations.
- Communication: Fluent written and spoken English with strong interpersonal skills.
- IT Literacy: Comfortable utilizing general practitioner medical records software.
Desirable Criteria
- Prior experience working in an Irish General Practice setting.
- Certified National Cervical Screening Programme smear taker.
- Post-graduate qualifications in Diabetes, Asthma, or Chronic Disease Management.
- Registered Nurse Prescriber (RNP) status.
