Financial Controller - Nuremore Estate by McGettigan's
We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Financial Controller to take responsibility for the full financial management of our independent 4 star hotel.
Reporting directly to the General Manager and Owner, this is a senior, hands-on role offering the opportunity to play a key part in the financial performance and long term success of the business.
The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the hotel's finance function, including management accounts, budgeting and forecasting, payroll oversight, cash flow management, Revenue compliance, cost control and financial reporting.
Working closely with the General Manager and Heads of Department, you will provide clear financial insight, support commercial decision-making and help drive profitability across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Events and other hotel operations.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports.

Produce weekly financial reports and monitor key performance indicators, including revenue, payroll costs, gross operating profit and departmental performance.

Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts in conjunction with the General Manager and Heads of Department.

Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, providing detailed variance analysis and recommendations.

Manage cash flow, banking, bank reconciliations, supplier payments and credit control.

Oversee payroll processing, payroll reconciliations, holiday accruals and departmental labour cost management.

Ensure compliance with Irish Revenue requirements, including VAT, PAYE Modernisation, PRSI, USC and all relevant statutory filings.

Maintain strong financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations, audit trails and financial procedures.

Prepare the year-end audit file and liaise with external accountants, auditors and professional advisors.

Oversee daily revenue reconciliation, income audit procedures and the accurate reconciliation of hotel systems.

Monitor debtor balances, corporate accounts and event accounts to ensure timely collection.

Review Food & Beverage margins, stocktakes, stock variances, purchasing procedures and supplier costs.

Support the General Manager and Heads of Department with pricing decisions, cost management and profitability analysis.

Analyse the financial performance of rooms, weddings, conferences, events, Food & Beverage and seasonal business.

Identify opportunities to improve profitability and reduce costs without negatively impacting the guest experience.

Maintain and improve accounting systems, financial reporting processes and internal controls.

Supervise and support members of the hotel accounts team.

Promote financial awareness and effective budget management across all departments.

Act as a trusted financial advisor to the General Manager and Owner.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced finance professional who is comfortable working in a hands-on and commercially focused environment.
You will have:

Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar senior finance position.

Experience within the hotel, hospitality or a similarly operational business environment is highly desirable.

Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting skills.

Good knowledge of Irish Revenue requirements, VAT and payroll compliance.

Strong commercial awareness with the ability to analyse business performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability.

Experience managing cash flow, financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations and year-end audit preparation.

Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial managers.

The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines.

A practical, solutions-focused approach and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.

A relevant accounting qualification or significant experience in a senior finance position.
