Naomh Mearnog GAA Club is seeking an experienced and motivated Bar Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our club bar and support the continued growth of our clubhouse as a welcoming hub for members, players, supporters, families and the wider local community.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong bar or hospitality management experience, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy club environment during matches, social events, private functions and peak trading periods.
The successful candidate will take ownership of bar operations, stock control, cash management, event support and team leadership, while helping to create a professional, friendly and community-focused atmosphere within the club.
Key Responsibilities
The Bar Manager will be responsible for:
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the club bar, ensuring high standards of service, presentation, cleanliness and customer care.
- Leading, motivating and managing the bar team, including rota planning, shift supervision, training and performance standards.
- Managing stock control and stock management, including ordering, stocktaking, supplier liaison, waste control and maintaining appropriate stock levels for regular trade, match days and events.
- Overseeing cash management, including till procedures, cash handling, end-of-shift reconciliation and accurate financial records.
- Supporting and coordinating club events, including match-day hospitality, social nights, fundraisers, private functions and community events.
- Ensuring the bar is appropriately staffed and prepared for busy periods, including evenings, weekends and major club fixtures.
- Maintaining a warm, professional and welcoming environment for members, visitors, guests and the wider community.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant licensing, responsible service, health and safety, hygiene and club policies.
- Working closely with the Club Executive / Bar Committee and other groups to support the club’s commercial and community objectives.
- Identifying opportunities to improve service, increase bar revenue and enhance the overall clubhouse experience.
Required Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a Bar Manager, Assistant Bar Manager, Duty Manager or senior hospitality supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of bar operations, stock control, cash handling and staff management.
- Experience managing busy service periods, including evenings, weekends, events or high-volume hospitality settings.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, organise and support a team.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
- A reliable, hands-on and flexible approach.
- The ability to work independently while also engaging positively with club officers, members, volunteers and suppliers.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, match days and event days as required.
Desirable / Advantageous
The following would be an advantage:
- Experience in event management, function coordination or hospitality events.
- Experience working in a club, sports, community or members’ environment.
- Marketing, promotions or social media experience.
- Experience supporting events through local promotion, online content, social media posts or member communications.
