County Kildare is located in the mid-east region of Ireland in the province of Leinster and is one of twelve Local Authorities comprising the Eastern and Midlands Region. It has a population of 247,774 (2022 Census) which is one of the fastest growing counties in Ireland over the past 20 years at a rate of 11% in comparison to the national growth rate of 8%. The principal towns are Naas, Newbridge, Celbridge, Leixlip, Maynooth, Athy, Kildare, Clane, Kilcock, Sallins and Monasterevin.
Strategically, the future planning and economic development of the county is guided and informed by the Eastern Midlands Regional Assembly’s Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES). The towns of Maynooth, Leixlip, Celbridge and Kilcock are located within the Metropolitan Area Strategic Plan (MASP) area.
Kildare County Council consists of 40 members who are elected every five years, the most recent local elections having taken place in 2024. The county is divided into five Municipal Districts of Athy, Celbridge/Leixlip, Kildare/Newbridge, Clane/Maynooth and Naas with the administrative headquarters located in Naas.
An opportunity now exists in Kildare County Council for the position of Senior Parks and Landscapes Officer.
Job Summary/Description:
Reporting to the Director of Service, or other appropriate officer, the Senior Parks and Landscape Officer is a senior management position within the Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces Directorate of Kildare County Council. They have the overall responsibility for the development, management and administration of the parks service which includes public realm areas, parks and recreation facilities and biodiversity initiatives. This position may also be developed to incorporate an area management element into the role. The Senior Parks & Landscape Officer will be required to have good knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety Legislation and associated Regulations. They will also be required to have an understanding of the role and duties of managers in safety management in the workplace.
