Our client is a small to medium-sized engineering company based in Mayo who are currently seeking an experienced Piping Designer to join their growing team.
This role would suit a piping designer with experience working on projects within the pharmaceutical, life sciences, data centre, industrial or process engineering sectors. The company is open to both permanent and contract candidates, with flexibility depending on the person’s availability and experience.
The role can be hybrid, but the successful candidate will be required to attend the Mayo office approximately 1 to 2 days per week to become familiar with company systems, meet the internal team and support client-facing project work.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing piping layouts, drawings and design packages for industrial, pharmaceutical and data centre projects.
- Developing 2D and 3D piping design deliverables in line with project requirements.
- Producing piping general arrangements, isometrics, equipment layouts and support details.
- Working from P&IDs, layouts, specifications, site information and client standards.
- Coordinating with mechanical, process, structural, electrical and project teams.
- Supporting design reviews, model reviews and clash detection where required.
- Liaising with project engineers, clients and site teams to ensure design accuracy and constructability.
- Reviewing and updating drawings based on client comments, site mark-ups and project changes.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes and client requirements.
- Supporting project delivery from concept design through to detailed design and construction support.
- Maintaining accurate design documentation and drawing registers.
- Contributing to continuous improvement across design systems, workflows and project delivery.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a Piping Designer within an engineering, construction or project delivery environment.
- Experience working on pharmaceutical, data centre, industrial, process or utilities projects.
- Strong understanding of piping layouts, pipe routing, supports, equipment layouts and plant room design.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, specifications, general arrangements and technical drawings.
- Experience producing piping isometrics, layouts and 3D models.
- Proficiency with relevant design software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, CADWorx, E3D or similar.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical understanding of how designs are installed on site.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with internal teams, clients and site personnel.
- Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines and work across multiple projects.
- Availability to attend the Mayo office 1 to 2 days per week.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Pharmaceutical or GMP project environments.
- Data centre mechanical or piping design.
- Clean utilities, process piping, plant rooms, chilled water, heating, cooling or compressed air systems.
- Site surveys, as-built drawings and brownfield project work.
- Clash detection and model coordination.
- Working with contractors, consultants or specialist design houses.
