About BuildTech
BuildTech is a Dublin-based Design & Build contractor specialising in residential renovations, extensions, refurbishments and deep retrofit projects.
Our integrated model brings architecture, engineering, cost planning and construction delivery together under one team. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Construction Operations Director to lead our construction delivery function and help shape the next stage of the company’s development.
About the Role
This is a senior leadership position with overall responsibility for the planning, coordination and performance of BuildTech’s construction operations.
The successful candidate will ensure projects are properly programmed, sequenced and resourced, with procurement, design information, trade requirements and key project decisions coordinated well in advance of the works.
The role is focused on forward planning, leadership, commercial performance and accountability rather than the day-to-day management of individual projects. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and Board, the Construction Operations Director will lead the project delivery team and provide direction and support to Site Managers, Foremen and BuildTech’s trade teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead BuildTech’s construction delivery function across multiple live residential projects.
- Ensure an effective handover from pre-construction, with a realistic construction programme, procurement plan and project delivery strategy in place before works progress.
- Take ownership of project programmes from mobilisation through to completion, ensuring works are correctly sequenced, resourced and coordinated.
- Drive short- and medium-term look-ahead planning, identifying critical-path activities, long-lead procurement, trade dependencies, design requirements and potential programme risks before they affect delivery.
- Support and challenge Site Managers and Foremen in achieving programme, quality, productivity, safety and client-service targets.
- Coordinate resources across projects and resolve operational bottlenecks or trade conflicts before they disrupt progress.
- Work with the Commercial and Finance teams to protect project margins, control costs and support cash flow through reliable production and project delivery.
- Review operational performance against agreed KPIs and report regularly to the Managing Director and Board.
- Oversee the recruitment, mentoring and development of Site Managers, Foremen and trade teams when required.
- Improve operational systems, reporting, standard operating procedures and accountability, including the consistent use of Buildertrend across project teams.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for an experienced residential construction leader who combines practical delivery knowledge with strong programme-planning, commercial, digital and people-management skills.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Extensive residential construction experience, ideally 15 years or more.
- Significant experience in a senior construction or operational management role.
- Proven experience leading Site Managers, Foremen and construction teams.
- Experience overseeing multiple live residential projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to develop, review and challenge detailed construction programmes, with a strong practical understanding of sequencing, critical-path activities, trade dependencies, resource planning and long-lead procurement.
- The ability to anticipate project requirements and address risks before they affect programme or cost.
- Strong commercial awareness, including project margins, cost control, productivity and operational performance.
- Strong IT skills and confidence using construction project management, scheduling and reporting systems. Experience using Buildertrend would be a distinct advantage.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, communication and decision-making skills.
- A calm, accountable and solution-focused approach to operational challenges.
A background in a construction trade, construction management, quantity surveying, engineering, building surveying or architecture would be advantageous.
Professional qualifications are desirable; however, proven practical leadership experience within a residential construction business will be considered equally valuable.
