The Substation Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development and delivery of HV and MV substation projects. The role involves preparing detailed engineering designs, technical specifications, construction drawings and supporting project delivery from concept through commissioning.
Responsibilities:·
Design electrical substations ranging from 10kV to 400kV.
Produce primary and secondary design drawings.
Prepare equipment specifications and technical documentation.
Develop protection and control philosophies.
Design cable systems, earthing systems and auxiliary services.
Carry out electrical calculations, load studies and fault level assessments.
Review vendor documentation and design submissions.
Support construction and commissioning teams during project delivery.
Ensure designs comply with ESB, EirGrid, IEC and relevant industry standards.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and HAZID workshops.
Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
Requirements:
Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Minimum 3 years' experience in HV/MV substation design.
Experience using AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, DIgSILENT or equivalent software.
Knowledge of IEC, ENA, ESB and EirGrid standards.
Chartered Engineer status desirable.
Strong technical and analytical capability.
Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong stakeholder management skills.
