RACECOURSE MANAGER
County Sligo Races CLG (T/A Sligo Races) operates Sligo Racecourse in the heart of Sligo Town.
Serving a substantial hinterland and embedded in the community, Sligo Races stages a minimum of 9
meetings each year, in a modern facility significantly developed in recent years. Sligo Races seeks to
recruit a Racecourse Manager due to the scheduled retirement of the existing Racecourse Manager.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Board, the successful candidate will have considerable autonomy to develop their
vision for Sligo Racecourse. In this on-site role you will lead the company at executive level and have
responsibility for day-to-day operations at the Racecourse. Specific responsibilities will include:
Preparation, monitoring and control of race day activities
Oversight of capital projects and development works
Promotion locally and nationally, in particular to maximise race day attendances
Board support through reporting, planning and implementing agreed priorities
Nurturing and developing relationships with key stakeholders such as race day participants
and support staff, sponsors, patrons and race industry bodies.
Compliance with health and safety, and regulatory issues
THE PERSON
The ideal candidate will:
Be adaptable and flexible around scheduled racing
Have excellent organisational, communications and technology skills
Be able to work in a dynamic live race day environment
Continue the existing robust financial management underpinning Sligo Races success
Be professional, personable and positive in dealing with stakeholders.
A relevant third level qualification and prior management experience in the racing, hospitality or
events management industries, or a comparable environment would be advantageous.
