Resident Civil Engineer
Tetra Tech are looking for Resident Engineer (Civil) to work on Water Infrastructure Projects across Ireland. Bring your civil engineering experience to high-impact water projects. If you want a visible role on major water infrastructure schemes, this is an opportunity to bring your civil engineering expertise into the heart of live project delivery
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As Resident Engineer (Civil), you will be site-based and embedded within the delivery team on complex above and below ground water utility projects across Ireland. You will play a key role in ensuring construction works are delivered safely, to the required standard and in line with contract requirements, while maintaining close oversight of contractor activity on live sites. The role combines technical monitoring, site coordination, reporting and stakeholder liaison, with a strong focus on quality, programme, compliance and practical issue resolution. You will work closely with contractors, client representatives, project managers and multidisciplinary teams, providing the day-to-day site presence needed to keep delivery moving in a controlled and professional way
Your Impact in this position
You will help turn design intent and contract requirements into safe, well-managed delivery on the ground. In the early stages, your focus will be on supporting efficient site control, identifying issues before they escalate and helping maintain momentum across live works. Over time, you will build trusted relationships, strengthen your technical and contractual knowledge, and contribute to consistently high delivery standards across major water sector projects.
Site Delivery and Construction Oversight
- You will bring strong civil engineering site experience and a practical understanding of construction delivery. You will keep close control of progress, workmanship, materials and sequencing, ensuring works remain aligned to the programme, specification and agreed milestones. You will be comfortable working across active interfaces, making informed observations, and supporting the team to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Health, Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Safety will be central to your role. You will have a strong understanding of construction health and safety requirements and the discipline to monitor compliance carefully on operational sites. Through regular inspections, clear reporting and prompt follow-up, you will help uphold a positive safety culture and support the close-out of any concerns or non-conformances.
Technical Reporting and Record Keeping
- Accurate reporting will be a key part of your day-to-day work. You will produce site reports, meeting minutes, progress updates and records that support decision-making and contractual accountability. Strong attention to detail is essential, along with the ability to maintain contemporaneous records and track matters that may have commercial, contractual or programme implications. Good IT skills, including MS Excel, will be an advantage.
Contract Awareness and Problem Solving
- You will have working knowledge of Public Works and FIDIC forms of contract and the confidence to apply that knowledge in a live site setting. You will be able to assess issues clearly, gather the right information and support practical solutions when challenges arise. Experience of contractor design review would be beneficial, along with a structured and analytical approach to site-based problem solving.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- This role requires someone who communicates clearly, builds trust quickly and works constructively with a wide range of stakeholders. You will liaise with contractors, client teams, statutory bodies, local residents and other project partners as required. A calm, professional and collaborative approach will help you contribute positively within a multidisciplinary environment.
Qualifications, Training and Experience
A Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering (or similar) is required, together with at least seven years’ relevant post-graduate experience, including site supervision and monitoring of safe working practices. Experience in the water sector is preferred, and pipeline or treatment plant experience would be advantageous. A clean driving licence is required. Current Safepass, Managing Safely in Construction and Manual Handling certification and Professional membership, or active progress towards it, are desirable.
Working Environment
These roles are primarily site-based and support projects across the East, South East, South West, Midlands and North West of Ireland. You will be expected to spend most of your time on site, working closely with construction teams and stakeholders.
