Here at Dawn Pork & Bacon we produce high quality pork, locally sourced from carefully selected and sustainable stocks. Our state of the art facility is fully customised to process and deliver goods that satisfy a broad range of customer specifications. We prepare the pork, from slaughter and deboning through to butchering and delivery, for both national and international markets.
We are currently recruiting an Animal Welfare Officer to join our team in Grannagh, Co. Waterford, acting as the main point of contact for animal health and welfare. In this role, you will ensure the highest standards of animal care from arrival through to processing, monitoring welfare, supporting audits, liaising with suppliers and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and ensuring full compliance with legislation and customer standards. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate.
About the role:
The successful candidate will:
- Oversee animal welfare on arrival, unloading, and in lairage
- Ensure calm, humane handling at all stages
- Monitor rest, access to water, and environmental conditions
- Liaise with farms, transporters, and suppliers
- Support welfare audits and maintain audit‑ready records
- Investigate welfare incidents and implement corrective actions
- Escalate serious issues to senior management promptly
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of animal welfare and behaviour
- Confident communicator with suppliers and auditors
- Accurate record‑keeping and attention to detail
- Able to make quick, informed decisions
- Experience in livestock, farming, or meat processing
- A related qualification is an advantage but not required
