We are seeking an experienced technical lead to join a dedicated cyber security team within the Mater Private Network. Based in Dublin City Centre, this hybrid role (minimum 3 days onsite) reports directly to the Group CISO, and is responsible for leading security engineering initiatives, improving the organisation's cyber security posture, and acting as the primary technical point of contact for our managed security service provider.
The Lead Cyber Security Engineer will work closely with the CISO on security architecture and design decisions, and will own the implementation and continuous improvement of security controls.
Key responsibilities

Lead the delivery of security engineering projects and initiatives end-to-end (design, implementation, and handover to operations).

Develop, document, and maintain the organisation's information security architecture in collaboration with the CISO and IT teams.

Lead secure design and hardening of Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, M365, Azure AD, and related services.

Work with IT teams to design, implement, and maintain secure applications and network architectures, including segmentation and zero-trust principles.

Drive improvements in identity and access management (IAM, PAM), endpoint protection, email security, and cloud security posture (primarily Azure)

Review the information security architecture and controls of current and future projects, technologies, and services, providing clear technical guidance and risk-based recommendations.

Ensure findings from security testing and audits are prioritised, tracked, and remediated.

Act as an escalation point of contact for the MSSP/SOC and other security service providers.

Work with the MSSP/SOC to tune detections and enhance visibility and logging across onprem and cloud environments.

Support the CISO in responding to major security incidents by providing technical investigation and remediation expertise.

Work closely with IT operations teams to ensure security controls remain effective, up to date, and aligned with changes in the environment.

Provide technical security guidance to project teams, solution architects, and IT staff.

Mentor and support other security engineers and analysts, helping to raise the overall technical capability of the team.
Required experience & skills

8+ years of hands-on IT experience, with at least 4 years in IT security roles.

Strong background in infrastructure or system administration roles (Windows, networks, or cloud) with a clear progression into security engineering.

Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft AD, Group Policy, M365, Azure AD etc.

Solid understanding of networking and firewall technologies, including secure network design and segmentation.

Clear understanding of secure architecture and design principles (defence in depth, least privilege, zero trust, securebydefault configurations).

Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver technical security projects and to carry out technical security audits and reviews.

Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to work autonomously in a small team.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a technical context.
Desirable
-
Experience working with security frameworks and standards (e.g. NIST, CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001).

Experience in healthcare environments or other regulated industries is a benefit.

Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, AZ500, or similar (experience is valued more than certification).

Proficiency in scripting or automation (e.g. PowerShell, Python) to improve efficiency of security operations and configuration management.

Experience designing and implementing controls for the use of AI systems and tools (e.g. generative AI, agents, AIdriven SaaS features).
