We are seeking a Wastewater Treatment Laboratory Analyst on a part time basis.
This role supports the efficient operation and regulatory compliance of a number of EPS WWTP's by carrying out laboratory testing and analysis of wastewater, sludge, and final effluent. The role ensures accurate monitoring of treatment performance in line with EPA discharge licence requirements and EPS operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sampling & Analysis

Collect representative samples from influent, process streams, sludge, and final effluent

Carry out routine laboratory testing including:
-
pH, COD, BOD
-
Suspended solids (TSS)
-
Ammonia, nitrates, and phosphorus
-
Settleability and sludge characteristics
-
Ensure correct sample preservation, storage, and chain of custody
Laboratory Operations
-
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, incubators, and balances
-
Calibrate instruments in accordance with SOPs and QA requirements
-
Prepare reagents, standards, and media for testing
Data Management & Reporting
-
Record and maintain accurate laboratory results in logbooks and/or digital systems
-
Assist with the preparation of data for EPA reporting and compliance submissions

Flag abnormal results or trends to the Plant Manager or Supervisor
Compliance & Quality Assurance

Adhere to EPS standard operating procedures and quality systems
-
Support compliance with EPA discharge licence requirements and internal audits

Participate in external sampling/testing programmes where required
Health, Safety & Environmental

Follow EPS health and safety policies at all times
-
Handle chemicals, wastewater, and biological samples safely
-
Maintain a clean and organised laboratory environment

Use PPE appropriately and report any hazards or incidents
Key Skills & Competencies
-
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing
-
Good organisational and time management skills (essential for part-time scheduling)
-
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
-
Solid understanding of laboratory techniques and wastewater processes
-
Good communication skills to liaise with plant operations staff
-
Competency in basic IT systems (Excel, data logging systems)
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
-
Degree, diploma, or certificate in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or similar

Basic hands-on laboratory experience
-
Understanding of wastewater treatment principles
Desirable
-
Previous experience in a wastewater treatment or environmental laboratory
-
Familiarity with EPA compliance and reporting requirements in Ireland
-
Experience with QA/QC systems or ISO standards
Working Pattern
-
24 hours per week
-
Typically spread across 3-4 days (flexible scheduling may be required based on operational/testing needs)

Occasional requirement to adjust hours to meet sampling schedules or compliance deadlines
-
This is a 1 year Fixed Term contract
