Job Description: Quality Assurance Lead
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Lead to oversee all aspects of quality assurance and control in our small engineering company. This role ensures that our products and processes meet or exceed customer and regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Quality Lead will work closely with cross-functional teams to uphold quality standards and drive efficiency across operations.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance and Control
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s quality management system (QMS).
- Define and document quality standards, procedures and specifications for products and processes.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and testing to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues, including non-conformances, customer complaints, and process deviations.
- Oversee supplier quality, ensuring that incoming materials meet required specifications.
- Organise and conduct Management Reviews of the Quality System ensuring all functions strive to provide effective and efficient service to the customer.
Supply Chain Quality:
- Address quality issues with both customers and suppliers, ensuring prompt and effective resolutions.
- Work closely with suppliers to uphold and improve incoming material quality.
- Oversee the customer complaint process, conducting root cause analysis and implementing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to enhance product and process quality.
- Lead initiatives to implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimise workflows and reduce waste.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality performance.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Provide guidance and training to employees on quality processes and best practices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters, including customer and regulatory inquiries.
- Foster a company-wide commitment to quality, driving accountability at all levels.
- Prepare and present quality reports to management, highlighting trends and recommendations for improvement.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations (e.g. ISO 13485, AS 9100).
- Maintain accurate records of quality activities, including inspections, audits and corrective actions.
- Lead preparation for and manage participation in both internal and external audits and certifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior quality-focused role, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- In-depth knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, such as root cause analysis, FMEA, and SPC.
- Experience with quality management systems and standards (e.g. ISO 13485, AS 9100).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with quality-related software tools and MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in quality management or related fields (e.g., CQE, CQA, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt).
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software.
- Proven track record of leading process improvement initiatives.
