Robotics and Automation Apprenticeship (RAA) NFQ Level: Level 6

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES The programme aims to provide a dedicated, practical pathway for apprentices seeking a career in robotics and automation, combining academic learning with real-world industry experience.
WHAT APPRENTICES WILL LEARN
1. Understand the principles of Industry 4.0/5.0 and robotics
2. Design and programme robotic systems safely and independently
3. Apply digitisation tools to optimise processes
4. Operate and maintain advanced manufacturing equipment
5. Work with control systems (PLC, SCADA, etc.)
6. Use mathematical techniques to solve technical problems
7. Lead teams, communicate clearly, and manage learning 8. Engage in lifelong learning and professional development.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The programme structure facilitates delivery in seven phases. The overall programme is designed so that the apprentice spends 70% of their time on-the-job and 30% off-the-job.
Phase 1 (on-the-job learning): First three months with the employer (July, August, September)
Phase 2 (off-the-job training): Commences in October 2026 at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre of Excellence in Dundalk, delivered by Louth Meath Education and Training Board for 12 weeks.
