Job Title: Customs Clearance Agent

Reports to: Operations Manager
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday). Weekend cover may be required. Hybrid working (WFH) is available following successful completion of probation.
About the Role
Virginia Transport Ltd. is seeking an experienced and motivated Customs Clearance Agent to join our Customs team. In this role, you will be responsible for processing customs clearances accurately and efficiently while ensuring full compliance with Irish, UK and EU customs regulations.

Key Responsibilities
As Customs Clearance Agent, you will:
- Act as the company's in-house expert on customs legislation, procedures and compliance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities and relevant external agencies.
- Monitor changes to customs legislation and communicate updates across the business.
- Input to the ongoing development, implement and continuously improve customs procedures and operating processes.
- Assist, where required with the ongoing training to ensure staff remain compliant with changing customs requirements.
- Ensure compliance of Common Transit consignments across domestic and international movements.
- Liaise with customs authorities regarding clearance issues, compliance queries and audits.
- Identify potential customs risks or delays and implement appropriate solutions.
- Maintain accurate documentation, customer communications and work to standardise best practice in the team.
- Support business development by identifying customer needs and contributing to service improvements.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a customs clearance role.
- Understanding of commonly used systems and acronyms such as : TARIC, ROS, AIS, NCTS, CDS, TRACES & IFPASS
- Knowledge of customs legislation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills and experience using customs and logistics systems.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to make informed decisions.
- Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Experience using the MoveIT system.
- Qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of UK and EU import and export procedures.
- Understanding of national and international transport operations.
- Experience managing customs compliance within a transport or logistics environment.
