Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer with a strong background in construction and civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with Irish legislation, and supporting site teams in delivering projects safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor the company’s Health & Safety Management System across multiple sites
- Ensure compliance with Irish health and safety legislation, including guidelines from the Health and Safety Authority
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments (RAMS), and safety documentation
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety training
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and produce detailed reports with corrective actions
- Liaise with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure best safety practices
- Monitor contractor performance and enforce safety standards
- Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is audit-ready
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in health, safety, and environmental performance
Requirements
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within construction or civil engineering
- Relevant qualification (e.g. Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and construction regulations
- Experience working on large-scale projects such as energy infrastructure, utilities, or major civils
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites
- Full clean driving licence
Desirable
- Experience in substations, renewable energy (wind/solar), or utility projects
- Training qualifications (e.g. manual handling instructor, first aid instructor)
- Membership of a professional body such as Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or Irish Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
- Environmental awareness or relevant certifications
