Details of Service
The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Pain Medicine (CSPPM) will work as part of the Pain Medicine service and will:
- Provide the Pain Management Education Program (PMEP), or similar required program, for SIVUH Pain Medicine patients, as referred by Pain Consultants, Pain Medicine CS Physiotherapists, and Pain Medicine ANPs.
- Provide a physiotherapy service to patients referred from Pain Medicine, in group or individualised format.
- Triage Consultant OPD Waiting Lists for Pain Medicine and select patients suitable for the PMEP (or similar) or Pain physiotherapy.
- Validate the Pain Medicine Consultant OPD Waiting Lists, (hard copy and electronic) remove patients who no longer require the service and to check for any duplication between the Pain Medicine Consultant OPD Waiting Lists. Enter a referral diagnosis as required.
- Attend and participate in Pain Medicine clinics:
- Coordinate the PEMP / assessments / classes / clinics with the appropriate Pain Medicine Consultant, ANP, CNS and Psychologist
- Work with Pain Medicine Consultants, Registrars, Physiotherapists, ANPs, Anaesthetists and other disciplines in out patient clinics as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Drive Pain Medicine service development, specifically around improving the clinical care pathway for pain patients, facilitating patients self management and discharge from the service.
Purpose of the Post
The purpose of this post is to ensure that the extension of the Elective Orthopaedic Physiotherapy service to include a Saturday / Sunday service, does not impact on the current Pain Medicine Physiotherapy service.
- To provide quality, patient focused advanced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Pain Medicine service on the day where the physiotherapists normally covering the clinics are rostered off, having covered the Elective Orthopaedic service the weekend prior/ or as per service needs requirements.
- To liaise with and provide a comprehensive handover to the physiotherapist normally covering the area.
- The post holder will be required to participate in the Sat/Sun Elective Orthopaedic physiotherapy roster. Where necessary, training to achieve competency in Inpatient Elective Orthopaedics will take place on the days when Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Pain Medicine cover is not required.
- Once competency in Inpatient Elective Orthopaedics is achieved, the post holder will be based in the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Pain Medicine service.
