Leisure Centre Attendant – Job Specification

Location: Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny

Hours: Rostered shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays
Role Purpose
The Leisure Centre Attendant is responsible for ensuring the safe, clean and professional operation of the hotel’s leisure facilities. The role involves providing excellent service to hotel guests and leisure members while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation, health and safety throughout the swimming pool, gym, changing rooms and associated leisure areas.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service
- Welcome hotel guests and leisure centre members in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist guests and members with queries regarding the gym, swimming pool, memberships and leisure facilities.
- Provide information on opening hours, classes, facilities and centre policies.
- Handle member and guest queries or concerns professionally and refer more serious issues to management.
- Maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere throughout the leisure centre.
Pool & Leisure Centre Supervision
- Monitor the swimming pool and surrounding areas to ensure guest and member safety.
- Enforce leisure centre rules and procedures in a polite but consistent manner.
- Carry out regular poolside and facility checks.
- Ensure children and vulnerable users are appropriately supervised in accordance with hotel policies.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to accidents, incidents or emergencies.
- Follow all emergency action plans and evacuation procedures.
Cleaning & Presentation
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout:
- Swimming pool and poolside areas
- Changing rooms and showers
- Toilets
- Sauna and steam room
- Gym
- Reception and public areas
- Complete scheduled cleaning duties throughout each shift.
- Ensure equipment, lockers and changing facilities are maintained in good condition.
- Report maintenance issues immediately to the Leisure Centre Manager or Maintenance Department.
Gym & Equipment
- Ensure gym equipment is clean, safe and correctly positioned.
- Carry out basic visual safety checks on equipment.
- Assist guests and members with the safe use of equipment where appropriate.
- Report damaged or faulty equipment immediately and remove equipment from use where necessary.
Pool & Health and Safety Procedures
- Complete pool testing and record results where trained and authorised to do so.
- Maintain accurate records of safety checks, cleaning schedules and incidents.
- Follow all health and safety, hygiene and chemical handling procedures.
- Ensure walkways, pool surrounds and changing areas remain safe and free from hazards.
- Maintain awareness of emergency equipment including first aid equipment and defibrillators.
Membership & Administration
- Assist with membership enquiries, renewals and basic membership administration.
- Ensure guests and members are correctly checked into the leisure centre.
- Assist management with promoting memberships, classes and leisure centre services.
- Answer telephone enquiries professionally.
- Complete any required daily checklists, logs or handover information.

Desirable:
- Previous experience in a hotel, gym, swimming pool or leisure centre.
- Lifeguard qualification.
- First Aid / CPR qualification.
- Pool Plant Operator qualification.
- Fitness or gym-related qualification.
- Previous customer service experience.
Training may be provided for suitable candidates.

Standards Expected
The successful candidate will be expected to represent Mount Errigal Hotel professionally at all times and contribute towards providing a safe, welcoming and well-maintained leisure environment for hotel guests and members.
All employees are expected to comply with hotel policies and procedures, health and safety requirements and any reasonable duties requested by management in connection with the operation of the Leisure Centre.
Pay: From €14.50 per hour
