Architectural Technician
Role Introduction:
Established in 1992, Applegreen is a leading convenience roadside retailer in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the US in both large-scale Motorway Service Areas and Travel Plazas, as well as smaller petrol stations. The business has grown to over 4BN in annual revenue, operating 430 Motorway Service Plazas and forecourt sites internationally and employing over 17,000 people.
Applegreen is in a rapid growth phase and to support this ambitious growth, we are seeking to onboard an architectural technician to join our group design & construction team. This role will primarily support the continued growth and development of our Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network across Ireland, the UK, and the US, while also assisting in the planning and development of new projects.

This role will form part of the group design team and reports to the group design director. The successful candidate will be a confident people person who can fit into Applegreenseamlessly and adopt a hands-on approach to their role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare site surveys, assessments, layouts, technical drawings and visualisations for EV charging and development projects.
- Assist in the planning, design and expansion of Applegreen's EV charging network across Ireland, the UK and the US.
- Develop concept layouts, feasibility studies and site development proposals.
- Prepare planning application packages and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate survey information, mapping data and consultant inputs to produce accurate project drawings.
- Maintain project records, technical documentation and drawing registers.
- Support the implementation of Applegreen brand standards, signage, graphics and customer-facing design elements.
- Produce presentation materials, graphic packages and visual mock-ups.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Design, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, Property and Development.
- Coordinate information from consultants, contractors, suppliers, landlords and regulatory authorities.
- Assist with site feasibility assessments, development concepts and infrastructure planning.
- Support vehicle tracking reviews, building layouts and compliance assessments.
- Contribute to master planning, site development strategies and project delivery.
- Produce 3D visualisations, CGI imagery and presentation materials where required.
The Candidate should have the following:
Qualifications, experience & skills
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an Architectural Technician or Technical Design role.
- Experience within a professional architecture, design, engineering, or construction environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of site planning, infrastructure, construction methods, and project delivery with proven experience preparing planning applications, site layouts, technical drawings, and supporting documentation.
- Good understanding of regional building regulations, accessibility requirements, and compliance standards.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of planning processes and local authority requirements is desirable.
- Experience in EV infrastructure, retail forecourts, roadside developments, commercial projects, utilities, infrastructure, or civil engineering environments would be advantageous.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map 3D, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive) is essential.
- Experience with Revit, Vehicle Tracking Software, Lumion, Enscape, Civil 3D, and InfraWorks is highly desirable and will be viewed favourably.
