St. Bernard’s is a well-established voluntary therapeutic children’s service which provides a unique and dedicated service to children in residential and foster care for over 50 years.Our centre provides therapeutic residential care for children under 12 years of age and is based in Fethard, Co. Tipperary.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To contribute to the promotion, creation and maintenance of a welcoming and caring environment and to a high standard of child care practice throughout the centre
- To contribute to the development of the centre, as a centre which is focused exclusively on the provision of a therapeutic approach to meeting the needs of the children and young people.
- To provide a positive life experience for the young people in all aspects of their care and welfare.
- To be responsible for, in conjunction with staff and senior management, providing high standards of care, quality of service and outcomes for young people.
- To assist the centre management in the implementation of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Services and Children First Guidelines.
- To ensure the policies and procedures related to the implementation of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Services and Children First are adhered to by management and staff.
- To advise the Social Care Manager/Director of any developments, as they arise, in particular any accidents/incidents of concern.
- To ensure that each child/young person has a Therapeutic Placement Plan with agreed objectives. The Therapeutic Plan is regularly reviewed as per unit policy. Ensure all records and files relating to the Therapeutic plans are updated regularly and placed on the child’s file by the keyworkers.
- To oversee the review and implementation of the Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMP’s) for each child. To ensure the ICMP’s are on file, up to date and reviewed after each significant incident involving a child.
- To assist the Social Care Manager in the review and monitoring of Significant Event Notifications (SEN’s) which occur in the unit. To ensure SEN’s are processed in a timely fashion, and all procedures have been adhered to in respect of the notification and follow up of same.
- To work collaboratively with the Social Care Manager in the provision of leadership and guidance to implement the primary task of the centre.
- To provide such reports, statistics to the Social Care Manager (or other specified person) as required.
- To promote and support the staff team to engage in age-appropriate play and other activities with each child/young person within the centre as required.
- To engage in all aspects of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques in keeping with training, policies and procedures provided in the centre.
