Portmarnock Community School’s Adult Education Department is seeking an experienced, qualified, and enthusiastic Tutor to deliver our QQI Level 5 Care for the Older Person (Component Award 5N2706) evening course for the upcoming Autumn 2026 term.Operating as an official hub under the Scoil Mhuire Clane QQI programme, this course delivers 40 hours of tuition over a 16-week period. The course aims to prepare adult learners for careers as Healthcare Assistants by combining classroom theory with a mandatory 30-hour external work placement in an approved healthcare setting.Schedule & Details:
- Term Dates: Starts Thursday 24th September 2026 (16 weeks, excluding October mid-term and school holidays).
- Class Times: Thursdays, 6:30pm – 9:00pm (2.5 hours contact time per week).
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver the approved QQI Level 5 Care for the Older Person curriculum in an engaging, professional manner to adult learners.
- Guide students in relating classroom theory to their 30-hour clinical work placements.
- Support learners with assignment preparation (Projects and Skills Demonstrations).
- Grade student portfolios at the end of the term in strict compliance with QQI assessment criteria.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- A relevant third-level qualification in Nursing, Gerontology, Social Care, or a related healthcare discipline.
- Previous experience teaching adult learners or delivering QQI-accredited healthcare programs is highly desirable.
- Frontline clinical or management experience within Irish nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments.

As this is an evening adult education course, the contract is subject to viable enrollment numbers. The position will proceed only if sufficient student registrations are achieved to run the course
