Risk and Assurance Officer, (EO Grade) (12- month - Fixed Term Contract)
The Medical Council is seeking to recruit a Risk and Assurance Officer (Executive Officer Grade) to join the Office of the CEO (OCEO).
The OCEO is a strategic function of the Medical Council overseeing the integration of internal governance, risk management and assurance. Its primary role is to ensure the organisation is well-governed, strategically aligned, operationally resilient, and fully accountable, acting as the nexus for high-priority, cross-departmental initiatives.
Reporting directly to the Risk and Assurance Manager, this role is to work with the OCEO team to develop and maintain the risk culture of the organisation, supporting governance and assurance activities, and provide administrative support to the CEO as required.
Key Accountabilities:
Support the Head of Section/ Chief Risk Officer to maintain organisational risk registers, including organising scheduled reviews and producing reports.
Arrange assurance reviews and prepare associated documentation.
Support the implementation of governance and assurance frameworks and associated policies and procedures.
Assist with organisational compliance tracking.
Support colleagues across the organisation with risk, compliance and assurance activity.
Assist in the operation of risk and compliance software including permissions, training and reporting.
Meeting support, including scheduling, minute- taking and preparation of reports.
Maintain database and filing systems.
Manage procurement processes for the section.
Proactive diary and email management for the CEO as required.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures.
Participate in continuous improvement activities and any wider organisational projects as may be required.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and the job holder is expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Essential Criteria
At least 2 years satisfactory experience in a busy administrative role, one of which includes experience in an organisation which operates procedures and activities within a statutory framework.
Proficient in MS Office (MS Word, MS Teams and MS Excel and diary management).
Experience of minute-taking and preparation of reports.
Previous experience in risk, assurance and compliance, preferably within a regulatory environment.
Desirable Criteria
Third-level qualification is desirable but not essential.

Proven organisational and administrative abilities, including complex diary management, scheduling, meeting coordination, and prioritising competing workloads.
Ability to apply sound judgement, identify and escalate issues appropriately, and analyse risks to support continuous organisational improvement.
Proactive and reliable approach to work, demonstrating ownership, initiative, professionalism, integrity, and discretion at all times.
Commitment to continuous improvement through supporting process enhancements, maintaining efficient procedures, and assisting with the implementation of new ways of working.
Details of this Appointment:
Position Type: This appointment will be offered on a full-time fixed term contract basis for 12 Months. A 6-Month probationary period applies to this appointment.
Salary: Starting salary will be at €38,803, which is the first point of the Executive Officer PayScale.
If you are currently a serving civil or public servant, your entry point to the PayScale may be higher based on your current salary.
There will be a salary increment each year in line with the Executive Officer Grade PayScale and subject to satisfactory performance, until the maximum point on the scale has been reached. The rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.

Annual Leave: 23 working days plus public holidays
Hours: 35 hours per week, Mon-Fri.
Location: The Medical Council's offices are located at Kingram House, Kingram Place, Dublin 2.
We operate a hybrid working model with both remote working and a current requirement for on-site attendance two days per week.
Pension: The Medical Council offers a pension through the Public Sector Scheme. Contributions to the scheme will commence on joining the organisation. Candidates currently working in the Public or Civil Service may transfer their pension.
