The opportunity
As a HSE Specialist at HITACHI ENERGY IRELAND LIMITED, you will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintaining robust Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company standards. You will play a critical role in fostering a strong safety culture and continuously improving HSE performance across our operations.
How you'll make an impact
- Develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with corporate standards and Irish legislation.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with HSE requirements.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Support the delivery of HSE training programs for employees at all levels, promoting awareness and best practices.
- Advise management on HSE performance, regulatory changes, and emerging risks.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive HSE reports to internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required.
- Manage and maintain all necessary HSE documentation, records, and permits.
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure HSE integration throughout project lifecycles.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in HSE performance and culture.
Your background
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in a dedicated HSE role, preferably within the energy, construction, or heavy industry sectors.
- Recognized HSE qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ Diploma, or equivalent).
- In-depth knowledge of Irish health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations.
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing HSE management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various sites as required.
