Details of the Service
The Clinical Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist will work as part of the orthopaedic service and will:
- Triage waiting lists for Paediatric Orthopaedics and select patients for correct route to physiotherapy, orthopaedic surgery/management, rheumatology management or other services
- Attend and participate in consultant led paediatric orthopaedic clinics on site and as covered by consultant services
- Hold OPD MSK clinics, in person or virtual, when the Consultant is not present
- Hold OPD MSK clinics, in person or virtual, in outreach or primary care settings
- Hold Advanced Clinical Prioritisation clinics, on site or in outreach/primary care settings
- Provide physiotherapy treatment to more complex patients
- Improve the Clinical Pathway for Paediatric Orthopaedics and Physiotherapy in the designated region.
- Work with Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants/Registrars and Physiotherapists in outpatient clinics as part of the multidisciplinary team. This team may involve other disciplines e.g. nursing, occupational therapy and podiatry services.
Purpose of the Post
The purpose of this post is to ensure that the extension of the Elective Orthopaedic Physiotherapy service to include a Saturday / Sunday service and Day Surgery Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, does not impact on the current Paediatric Orthopaedic Triage Physiotherapy service.
- To work with Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants undertaking triage of paediatric musculoskeletal referrals to improve the pathway of care between primary care and acute services, thereby facilitating efficient access to orthopaedics, rheumatology, physiotherapy or other service as required.
- To hold Outreach, Virtual, Stand Alone and Advanced Clinical Prioritisation clinics
- To contribute to the mainstreaming of the improved pathway of care between primary care and acute services through the development of multidisciplinary interface clinics as part of the improved service model for orthopaedics. (Musculoskeletal Interface Clinics are joint clinical assessment clinics provided at the interface between primary and secondary care service providers)
