The Climbing Wall Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, friendly and enjoyable climbing experience for West Wood Club members and guests. The role involves supervising the climbing wall, delivering climbing instruction, supporting beginners and ensuring that all climbing activities are carried out safely and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise members and guests using the indoor climbing wall.
- Provide instruction and guidance to climbers of different ages and ability levels.
- Teach beginners the basic principles of climbing, including safe climbing techniques and wall procedures.
- Ensure that all climbing equipment is used correctly and safely.
- Carry out safety checks of climbing equipment and the climbing wall area.
- Explain and enforce climbing-wall safety rules and procedures.
- Assist members with climbing techniques and encourage them to develop their skills and confidence.
- Monitor the climbing area and respond appropriately to any safety concerns or incidents.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe climbing environment.
- Assist with changing and maintaining climbing holds and routes where required.
- Complete opening and closing procedures for the climbing wall.
- Report damaged equipment, maintenance issues or safety concerns to management.
- Provide excellent customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere for members and guests.
- Promote the climbing wall and encourage members to participate in climbing activities.
- Follow all West Wood Club health, safety and operational procedures.
Skills and Experience
- Previous climbing experience is essential.
- Climbing Wall Instructor qualification/certification is desirable or required depending on the position.
- Good knowledge of climbing-wall safety and equipment.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Ability to work confidently with beginners and children.
- Friendly, professional and approachable manner.
- Reliable, punctual and responsible.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- A genuine interest in climbing and helping others develop their skills.
Working Environment
This is an active, customer-facing role based at the West Wood Club Sandymount indoor climbing wall. The instructor may be required to work evenings and weekends depending on the club's operating requirements.

To ensure that every member and guest has a safe, enjoyable and positive climbing experience, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, customer service and professionalism.
Pay: From €14.15 per hour
