Role Overview
We are seeking an ambitious Qualified Finance Business Partner to join the small but growing finance team on a permanent basis in this newly created position. The successful candidate will be hard-working, enthusiastic, highly organised, commercially minded and ambitious, with an eye for detail.
This is a unique opportunity to take full ownership of the finance function for our rapidly growing Energy Division, which has recently completed one acquisition and is nearing completion of a further strategic acquisition. The Energy Division is expected to be one of the primary growth engines of the Group over the coming years, with significant investment planned through both organic growth and acquisitions.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the financial strategy and scaling of this division. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop into a senior finance leadership position as the Energy Division continues to expand through acquisitions and organic growth.
Reporting to the Financial Controller and working closely with the CFO you will act as the primary finance lead for the Energy Division, partnering with the Directors and operational leadership teams to drive financial performance, support strategic decision making and ensure robust financial control. You will balance commercial business partnering with strong financial reporting and compliance responsibilities.

Business Partnering & Commercial Support:
- Act as the trusted financial advisor to the Directors of the Energy Division, influencing strategic decisions and challenging business performance, identifying risks, opportunities and actions required to improve profitability and cash generation.
- Build strong relationships with operational stakeholders and provide financial insight to support strategic and commercial decision making and create an active partnership between Finance and Operations to drive business performance and accountability.
- Support the development and execution of growth strategies across each of the businesses by challenging operational assumptions and providing financial guidance to support business objectives.
- Conduct profitability analysis across customers, projects and service lines to identify growth opportunities and margin improvement initiatives in addition to developing and maintaining KPI reporting frameworks to monitor operational and financial performance.
- Support pricing, tender reviews, investment appraisals and commercial evaluations where required and build financial models and business cases to support investment and growth decisions.
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Take full ownership of the Energy Division P&L, balance sheet and cash flow performance across all entities, providing insightful variance analysis, commentary and timely reporting to Group Finance and senior management.
- Prepare and present financial performance updates, forecasts and business insights to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders.
- Prepare forecasts, annual budgets and long-range financial plans for the Energy Division and monitor financial performance against those plans, providing clear recommendations where corrective action is required.
- Review project performance and contract profitability on a regular basis, ensuring risks, opportunities and forecast outcomes are identified early and communicated to management.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all reporting deadlines are achieved with balance sheet reconciliations completed, reviewed and fully supported with appropriate documentation.
Strategic Projects, Governance & Integration:
- Lead the finance integration of acquired businesses and support future M&A activity, including financial due diligence, integration planning and post-acquisition performance tracking.
- Develop and embed consistent financial reporting, governance and project accounting standards across all Energy Division entities, ensuring accurate revenue and cost recognition, clear visibility of project profitability, and compliance with Group policies and financial reporting standards.
- Monitor and optimise working capital performance across the Energy Division and provide visibility and management of cash flow, liquidity and funding requirements by partnering with operational teams to improve debtor collections, billing processes and cash conversion
- Act as a key finance lead in the implementation of a new ERP system over the next 12 months, ensuring robust process mapping, testing, training and successful adoption across all Energy Division entities.
- Take ownership of the year-end audit process for all Energy Division entities, acting as the primary contact for external auditors as well as ensuring all Energy entities remain fully compliant with tax obligations across VAT, RCT, PAYE, Corporation Tax and other statutory filings.
Experience & Skills
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial information into actionable business insights.
- Proven ability to influence and challenge non-financial stakeholders in a constructive and commercially focused manner.
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting and business planning processes.
- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
- Previous experience in project-based, construction, engineering, infrastructure, utilities or energy sectors would be advantageous.
- Experience of acquisitions, integration projects or systems implementations would be beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.

- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with minimum 2 years PQE in industry.
