Poisition Description
The DMSO (Distribution Markets and System Operation) Operations Systems Support (OSS) team is seeking to fill the role of Senior SCADA Engineer. The role of the OSS team is to support and maintain ESB Networks critical Operational Technology (OT) systems which include SCADA, Network Management System (NMS) and Geographic Information System (GIS).
SCADA is the real time operations system used in the National Distribution Control Centre (NDCC) to control and monitor the distribution network. It enables the NDCC to operate the network under maximum safety, isolating faults and restoring supply in the event of an outage.
The Senior SCADA Engineer will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the SCADA system and supporting the delivery of new projects required to meet the strategic objectives of the DMSO. Support and maintenance of the SCADA system, includes data engineering, development of HMI displays, system and database administration, support, maintenance, commissioning and project work/system upgrades. The SCADA Engineer will also be responsible for the developing, maintaining and testing Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) configurations.
Key Responsibilities
Support and maintain 24x7 operation of the SCADA systems for the ESB Networks and the National Distribution Control Centre.
Data engineering for SCADA integration works, development of HMI displays, reports and signal lists.
Support commissioning for new and existing substations and distribution automation devices.
Support commissioning for new and existing substations and distribution automation devices.
Development of procedures, processes and work instructions for supporting and maintaining the SCADA system.
Contribute to the development and implementation of SCADA solutions to meet ESB Networks' overall strategy for the safe management and operation of the distribution system or similar.
Provide support to ensure the smooth roll out and reliable operation of the SCADA, and Distribution Automation Systems nationally.
Support the delivery of new projects required to meet the strategic objectives of the DMSO.
Stay abreast of best practice developments in network operation systems.
Developing, maintain and test Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) configurations.
Contribute to the development of advanced SCADA and Distribution Management Systems (DMS) applications.
Provide support to the OT Cybersecurity Manager.
Ensure effective use of systems by users through the provision of training programmes.
Monitor Service Level Agreements with key stakeholders as required. .
Working with Vendors to resolve technical issues and evaluate new systems and functionality.
Stakeholder management with internal business units, third parties and system vendors.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience is essential.
Either 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
Proven ability to deliver on the “key responsibilities” outlined above.
A strong Knowledge of SCADA systems.
A strong Knowledge of substation RTUs and Substation Control Systems (SCS) systems.
Strong Knowledge of industry standard SCADA communication protocols, e.g. IEC 60870-5-101, 104, IEC 61850 and Inter Control Centre Protocol (ICCP).
Knowledge of SCADA operations and commissioning practices.
A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB Networks safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
Knowledge of substation control wiring and equipment.
The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Self starter with ability to manage own work and support others within project team.
The ability to technically mentor junior team members.
A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Desirable
Experience in Control Centre SCADA and telecommunications.
Knowledge of Networking, TCP/IP and internet technology.
Familiarity with Unix, Linux or similar Operating Systems.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum
