BuildTech is a Dublin-based Design & Build Contractor specialising in residential renovations, extensions, refurbishments and deep retrofit projects.
As part of our continued growth, we are developing our own internal plumbing and mechanical services division. This is a key long-term role for an experienced plumber who wants to take ownership of high-quality residential heating and plumbing installations, with a strong focus on heat pumps, heating upgrades and retrofit works.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Plumber / Mechanical Lead to join our construction team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out and overseeing plumbing and heating works across residential renovation and retrofit projects. The role will focus mainly on installation quality, coordination with suppliers/manufacturers, commissioning support, snagging, troubleshooting, and helping BuildTech develop strong internal standards for mechanical works.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to become a key part of a growing internal department rather than working as a standard subcontract installer.
Key Responsibilities
The role will include:
- Installation of domestic plumbing and heating systems
- Air-to-water heat pump installation support
- Domestic hot water systems
- Radiator upgrades and low-temperature heating systems
- Underfloor heating systems
- Heating controls and associated pipework
- Cylinder installation and plant room setup
- Hot and cold water services
- Pipework alterations in renovation and retrofit projects
- Reading manufacturer layouts, schematics and technical details
- Working with suppliers, manufacturers and commissioning engineers
- Testing, snagging and commissioning support
- Fault finding and troubleshooting
- Recording completed works, photos, checks and handover information
- Supporting the development of BuildTech’s internal plumbing/mechanical standards
- Assisting with future training and supervision as the department grows
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a qualified plumber
- Have strong domestic plumbing and heating experience
- Be confident working on residential renovation and retrofit projects
- Have experience with heating upgrades, radiators, cylinders and controls
- Be capable of working independently and managing their own work areas
- Be organised, practical and quality-focused
- Be comfortable dealing with suppliers, manufacturers and commissioning support teams
- Have strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Take pride in clean, professional installations
- Be interested in helping BuildTech build a reliable internal plumbing department
Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following would be a strong advantage:
- Air-to-water heat pump installations
- Low-temperature heating systems
- SEAI / grant-related documentation
- Heat pump commissioning support
- Joule, Daikin, Mitsubishi Ecodan, Grant, Panasonic or similar systems
- Underfloor heating
- Residential deep retrofit projects
- Plant rooms and cylinder installations
- Heating controls
- RGI registration, if applicable
