Chef – Childcare Service
Location: Stamullen, Co. Meath
Contract: Part time, fixed term ( to be discussed)
Reports to: Service Manager
Overview
The Chef plays a vital role in creating a warm, healthy, and nurturing environment for children by preparing nutritious meals and snacks in line with dietary guidelines, safety standards, and the ethos of the childcare service. This role requires a caring, organised, and efficient individual who understands the importance of food in children’s wellbeing and development.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Food Preparation
- Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 6 months–5 years.
- Ensure meals meet dietary requirements, allergies, cultural needs, and parental preferences.
- Follow weekly menus and contribute to menu development
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Maintain the highest standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness.
- Adhere to HACCP guidelines and all food safety regulations.
- Ensure safe storage, preparation, and serving of food.
- Conduct daily temperature checks and maintain accurate records.
Kitchen Management
- Manage stock levels, order supplies, and monitor deliveries.
- Maintain an organised, efficient kitchen environment.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and used safely.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Manager and staff to coordinate meal times and routines.
- Communicate effectively regarding allergies, dietary changes, and food‑related incidents.
- Support staff in promoting healthy eating habits among children.
Compliance & Record Keeping
- Maintain all required documentation for Tusla, Environmental Health, and internal audits.
- Follow all policies relating to food safety, child protection, and confidentiality.
Child‑Centred Practice
- Prepare meals that encourage independence, exploration, and positive mealtime experiences.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for children and families.
Person Specifications
- Experience in cookery or equivalent.
- Experience working in a childcare, school, healthcare, or similar setting desirable.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations.
- Ability to plan menus and prepare meals for large groups.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
- Warm, caring, and child‑centred approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills.
- Flexibility and reliability.

Pay: €15.50 per hour
