Role Overview
The Purchasing Assistant is responsible for supporting the procurement and stores functions by ordering, organising, and managing materials and components required for production operations. The role also supports inventory control, supplier coordination, logistics, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and engineering components as required.
- Source consumables, tools, and production materials while ensuring cost-effective purchasing.
- Monitor supplier performance, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Raise purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP system.
- Prepare and kit materials for production and assembly teams.
- Coordinate shipping, collections, and goods returns where necessary.
- Operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, where certified.
- Track orders and proactively communicate delivery updates or delays to relevant departments.
- Assist in stock control, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement lean practices such as 5S.
- Work alongside and assist the stores person with goods inwards, storage etc where required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised stores environment.
- Ensure compliance with company quality, health, and safety procedures.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in purchasing, stores, procurement, or warehouse operations is desirable.
- Good understanding of inventory management and purchasing processes.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; ERP system experience is an advantage.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Forklift licence/certification is beneficial.
Experience/Qualifications
Applicants should have at least 3 years’ experience in similar role.
Forklift certification is preferred; training may be provided for the right candidate.
