JOB SYNOPSIS
The Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick (UL) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Social Work. The Department of Sociology is a dynamic and collaborative environment that delivers excellence in research, teaching, and societal impact. Our faculty members’ teaching and research interests span the breadth of the discipline and have expertise in quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches. The Department’s research profile is distinguished by its dual commitment to rigorous scholarly enquiry and meaningful social impact, supported by a robust track record in securing competitive funding from both national and international sources, including Research Ireland and EU funders. Our strong publication and citation record is complemented by faculty members’ active engagement with local, national, and supranational bodies, and policy and practice-oriented impact work. The Department of Sociology is committed to providing our students an intellectually stimulating educational experience that cultivates disciplinary knowledge and transferable skills. We offer high-quality curricula designed to foster critical thinking, methodological competence, and deep engagement with pressing social issues. Our teaching is research-driven, and our pedagogical practices are designed to empower students as active and reflective learners. In addition to our undergraduate programmes, we support a growing community of postgraduate students across taught Masters and PhD pathways. The Department of Sociology will shortly offer social work education via the Master’s in Social Work programme. This post is to directly support the establishment and delivery of this flagship programme as well as other undergraduate & postgraduate offerings as they arise. We seek candidates who hold a PhD in Social Work (or close cognate discipline) or who are close to completion before the commencement of the post. Candidates also must hold a professional qualification in social work and be registered (or eligible to register) as a social worker with CORU – the Health and Social Care Professional Regulator in Ireland. The successful candidate must be registered with CORU prior to the commencement of the post.
