Assistant Staff Officer

The Assistant Staff Officer is part of the middle-management structure of the Local Authority and plays an important part in supporting middle-management in a department, ensuring the effective delivery of services across a wide range of council activities. This is a dynamic position that will frequently be the first point of call for elevated and more complex customer service issues, and the ideal candidate will need to combine operational leadership, customer service, team management, and high-quality administrative delivery.
They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Council, assisting with the implementation of work programmes to achieve goals, targets and standards set out in Departmental and Team Development Plans. Assistant Staff Officers will be required to operate the Council’s existing and future Financial and Information Communication Technology (ICT) systems as part of their work.
Assistant Staff Officers are frequently responsible for the day-to-day supervision of staff at Clerical Officer grade, or analogous.

Selection for all posts will be by means of interview and candidates may be shortlisted based on applications submitted. Panels may be formed from which future vacancies may be filled.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE ETC.:
Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed Application forms:
Applicants for Panel B (Open)
(i) (a) have obtained at least Grade D (or a Pass), in Higher or Ordinary Level, in five
subjects (or four if Irish is included) from the approved list of subjects in the department of education Established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme including Irish and/or English and one of the following: Mathematics, Accounting, Business Organisation or Economics,
AND
(b) have obtained at least Grade C (or Honours) in Higher Level (or Honours) Papers in three subjects in that examination (or two subjects if Irish and/or one of the following is included: Mathematics, Accounting, Business or Economics),
OR
(ii) have obtained a comparable standard in an equivalent examination,
OR
(iii) hold a third level qualification of at least degree standard.
Confined Competition (Panels A and C as appropriate)
(i) (a) be a serving employee of a Local Authority or a regional assembly, and have not less than two years satisfactory experience in a post of Clerical Officer or analogous post.
Applicants must upload proof they hold at least one of the qualifications specified in criteria (i), (ii) or (iii) above to the online recruitment portal, or they will not be considered for Panel B.
Non-Irish Qualifications must be accompanied by a determination from Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) to establish their comparability against the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. Overseas qualifications must be accompanied by a certified translation document, where appropriate.
