Are you looking for a veterinary nursing role that offers variety, flexibility, and the opportunity to develop your Emergency & Critical Care skills without committing exclusively to nights?
At AllPets Veterinary Hospital, we're excited to introduce a brand-new hybrid nursing position as part of the continued expansion of our day and out-of-hours services. This newly created role has been designed to support the growth of both teams while offering nurses a unique opportunity to enjoy the benefits of both daytime practice and emergency nursing.
Whether you're looking for full-time or part-time hours, a permanent position or a fixed-term contract, this role offers an excellent work-life balance alongside varied and rewarding clinical exposure.
This newly created hybrid position has been designed with flexibility in mind and offers a unique blend of first-opinion nursing and emergency care.
Unlike many ECC positions, this role provides exposure to emergency and urgent care cases through our daytime Out-of-Hours service, allowing you to develop your Emergency & Critical Care skills while maintaining an excellent work-life balance. Overnight patient care is transferred to our dedicated night team, meaning you can enjoy the variety and clinical challenge of emergency nursing without routine night shifts.
Our Out-of-Hours service is delivered through daytime shifts, with overnight care managed by our dedicated night team. This allows nurses to gain valuable emergency and critical care experience without the commitment of overnight working.
Typical OOH shifts include:
- Saturday: 7:00/8:00am – 6:30pm
- Sunday: 9:00am – 7:30pm or 2:30pm – 7:30pm
- Bank Holidays: 9:00am – 7:30pm or 2:30pm – 7:30pm
Alongside the OOH weekend commitment, nurses will work a combination of weekday shifts within our day team. The exact pattern can be tailored around both the successful candidate's preferences and the needs of the practice.
For example, this may include Friday and/or Monday shifts either side of a working weekend, creating a varied and flexible rota that can support both full-time and part-time working arrangements.
We welcome applications from candidates who wish to:
- Work every second weekend with weekday shifts
- Work every weekend with fewer weekday commitments
- Build a part-time schedule around existing commitments
- Secure a full-time role with a mix of day practice and emergency caseload exposure
This newly created position is ideal for a nurse seeking greater flexibility, clinical variety, and the opportunity to be part of an expanding team and developing Out-of-Hours service.
I think this reads much more positively because it focuses on flexibility, ECC exposure, no night duties, and genuine choice around hours, which are likely to be the key attractions for candidates.
As a Registered Veterinary Nurse within our hybrid day and Out-of-Hours team, you'll play an important role in delivering exceptional patient care across both services. No two days are the same, with the opportunity to support a varied caseload ranging from routine first-opinion work through to urgent and emergency cases.
You will be responsible for delivering a high standard of nursing care, supporting our veterinary surgeons during consultations and procedures, monitoring and caring for hospitalised patients, and assisting with emergency and critical care cases when required. Client communication is also an important aspect of the role, including discussing inpatient care and providing updates on patient progress. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to run nurse clinics, maintain accurate clinical records, and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment where patient welfare is always the priority.
There has never been a more exciting time to join AllPets Veterinary Hospital. As we continue to develop and expand our Out-of-Hours offering, we're investing heavily in both our facilities and our people.
This growth has led to the creation of several new positions across the practice, with our veterinary team expanding from six to nine Veterinary Surgeons and our nursing team growing from eight to thirteen Registered Veterinary Nurses. Supported by our Customer Service Team, Animal Care Assistants, Accounts Administrator and Practice Manager, we're building a service that allows us to provide outstanding care to our patients while creating an excellent working environment for our team.
As a result, this new role offers the opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking hospital at a pivotal stage in its development, where there is genuine scope to shape the future of the service while growing your own career.
At AllPets, we're proud of the culture we've built. We are a progressive, knowledgeable and supportive team who genuinely enjoy working together and sharing expertise.
Our clinical team includes Veterinary Surgeons with certificates in both Medicine and Surgery, while our nursing team has developed advanced knowledge across several areas including Emergency and Critical Care and ISFM Feline Medicine. We are also proud to have a nurse who has recently completed a Master's Degree in Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
Whether you're already confident managing emergency cases or are looking to build your experience in ECC, you'll be surrounded by experienced colleagues who are passionate about mentoring, learning and delivering the highest standards of patient care.
We're looking for a compassionate and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse who thrives in a busy clinical environment and enjoys being part of a supportive team. You'll be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI), eligible to work in Ireland, and have some experience within a small animal practice setting.
Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise workloads and remain calm in a fast-paced environment. You'll be someone who takes pride in delivering excellent patient and client care, works well both independently and as part of a team, and shares our commitment to maintaining high clinical standards.
Previous experience within an Out-of-Hours or Emergency and Critical Care environment would be advantageous, but it is by no means essential. We would be equally pleased to hear from nurses who have a solid grounding in general practice and are keen to develop their ECC skills within a supportive and encouraging environment.
This role offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the variety of both day practice and emergency nursing within a flexible working pattern that can be tailored around your circumstances. You'll gain exposure to a diverse and interesting caseload while working alongside a highly experienced clinical team that is committed to supporting your professional development.
We understand the importance of investing in our people and offer a comprehensive benefits package including CPD support and funding, paid professional memberships, wellbeing resources and staff discounts. Whether you're seeking a permanent or fixed-term position, full-time or part-time hours, you'll find a team that values its nurses, encourages career progression and provides the support needed to thrive.
Most importantly, this role allows you to develop your emergency nursing experience without routine night shifts, as overnight patient care is managed by our dedicated night team, helping you achieve an excellent balance between career development and personal life.
This is far more than a traditional nursing position. It's an opportunity to become part of an ambitious and expanding hospital, contribute to the continued development of our Out-of-Hours service, and enjoy a role that combines the familiarity of general practice with the challenge and reward of emergency nursing.
If you're looking for flexibility, clinical variety, genuine work-life balance and a supportive team that will help you grow, we'd love to hear from you.
