Fay Farms is seeking to recruit an experienced and motivated Pig Farm Manager in Cavan, Co Cavan, this role involves the overall running of a finishing unit and some aspects of running the sow unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the pig unit, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, health, performance, and farm efficiency.
This role will involve monitoring all aspects of production, providing leadership to site team and effectively delegating to ensure all work is carried out effectively safely and to the required standards.
Manage the daily operations of the pig unit.
Ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare.
Monitor animal health, growth, feeding, and performance
Strong work ethic and good communication skills.
Identify and respond promptly to signs of illness or injury.
Oversee feeding, cleaning, housing, and general husbandry.
Maintain accurate records of animal numbers, treatments, feed usage, and performance.
Work closely with the farm owner, veterinarian, nutritionist, and other staff.
Supervise and support farm employees where required.
Ensure the unit is kept clean, safe, and well maintained.
Follow all farm biosecurity, health and safety, and environmental procedures.
Help achieve production targets while maintaining excellent animal welfare.
Record keeping, overseeing site safety, auditing and reporting / Bord Bia / EPA
Supporting maintenance of buildings, equipment and slurry management
Monitoring KPIs and reporting to senior management.
Requirements
Previous experience working with pigs is essential.
Good knowledge of pig husbandry and animal welfare.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
Ability to identify health and welfare issues quickly.
A full clean driving licence.
The ability to communicate effectively with a basic level of English is essential for this role.
A relevant agricultural qualification is an advantage but not essential.
