Portmarnock Community School’s Adult Education Department is seeking an experienced, qualified, and enthusiastic Tutor to deliver our QQI Level 5 Special Needs Assisting (Component Award 5N1786) evening course for the upcoming Autumn 2026 term. Operating as an official hub under the Scoil Mhuire Clane QQI programme, this course delivers 40 hours of tuition over a 16-week period. The course aims to prepare adult learners for careers as SNAs by combining classroom theory with a mandatory 30-hour external work placement.Schedule & Details:
- Term Dates: Starts Tuesday 22nd September 2026 (16 weeks, excluding October mid-term and school holidays).
- Class Times: Tuesdays- 6:30pm – 9:00pm (2.5 hours contact time per week).
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver the approved QQI Level 5 SNA curriculum in an engaging, professional manner to adult learners.
- Guide students in relating classroom theory to their 30-hour work placements.
- Support learners with assignment preparation (Learner Records and Skills Demonstrations).
- Grade student portfolios at the end of the term in strict compliance with QQI assessment criteria.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- A relevant third-level qualification in Education, Special Education, Social Care, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience teaching adult learners or delivering QQI-accredited programs is highly desirable.
- Frontline experience working within Irish primary, secondary, or special school structures.
Please Note:
As this is an evening adult education course, the contract is subject to viable enrollment numbers. The position will proceed only if sufficient student registrations are achieved to run the course.
