The Irish General Practice Nurses Educational Association (IGPNEA) is seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Education – General Practice Nursing to provide strategic leadership for the development and delivery of education, professional development and competency initiatives for General Practice Nurses (GPNs) across Ireland.
Reporting to the IGPNEA Chairperson and National Executive Committee (NEC) Executive Officers, the Director of Education will lead the Association's educational strategy, ensuring that all programmes reflect national policy, professional standards, evidence-based practice and the evolving needs of General Practice Nursing.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Educational Leadership
- Develop and lead the Association's education strategy in line with organisational objectives and national healthcare priorities.
- Identify current and future educational needs within General Practice Nursing and develop innovative solutions to address them.
- Promote excellence, lifelong learning and continuous professional development across the profession.
- Provide expert advice to the NEC on educational policy, competency frameworks and professional standards.
Curriculum Development & Programme Management
- Lead the design, implementation, review and evaluation of educational programmes.
- Develop high-quality post-registration education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
- Ensure all educational programmes remain evidence-based, current and aligned with national standards and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate programme effectiveness through quality assurance and participant feedback.
Professional Development & Competency
- Lead the development of professional competency initiatives and portfolio development programmes.
- Support nurses in meeting professional competency and continuing education requirements.
- Develop educational resources and guidance to support professional practice.
- Monitor developments in professional regulation and advise on implications for members.
Quality Assurance & Governance
- Establish robust quality assurance processes across all educational activities.
- Ensure compliance with professional, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Monitor programme outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for the NEC on educational performance and outcomes.
Research, Innovation & Evidence-Based Practice
- Promote evidence-based practice throughout all educational programmes.
- Support research initiatives relevant to General Practice Nursing.
- Encourage innovation in educational delivery, teaching methodologies and programme development.
- Facilitate the dissemination of research and best practice across the profession.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with educational institutions, healthcare providers, regulatory bodies and professional organisations.
- Work closely with Professional Development Coordinators, programme facilitators and committees to deliver educational objectives.
- Represent the IGPNEA at meetings, conferences, working groups and national forums.
- Build strategic partnerships that enhance educational opportunities for members.
Organisational Leadership
- Contribute to the strategic planning and development of the Association.
- Support organisational performance reporting and educational planning.
- Manage the Association's CPD budget and educational resources responsibly.
- Provide regular progress reports to the NEC and membership on educational initiatives.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Registered General Nurse with current registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Significant experience in:

- Demonstrated experience leading educational or professional development initiatives.
- Experience in strategic planning and programme management.
Desirable
- Experience working in General Practice Nursing.
- Master's degree (or higher) in Health Education, Education or a related discipline.
- Experience in competency framework development and quality assurance.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- Hours: 20 hours per week.
- Location: Fully remote.
- Salary: Director of Nursing Band I (pro rata) €40.00ph - €50.00ph, dependent on experience and qualifications
- The role requires attendance at NEC meetings, the Annual General Meeting, conferences and other events as required by the Association.
